Vincent van Gogh worked from 1881 until his untimely death in 1890, producing a huge volume of work over a relatively short period of time.
While I’ve always loved his work, what made him a perfect candidate for a visualisation was that most of his paintings survived to be photographed in colour. His use of colour also shifts dramatically across his body of work from his sombre early paintings of peasants, to the psychedelic landscapes at the end of his life.
I chose to filter out work that wasn’t a painting, and any pictures for which we don’t have a colour reproduction. Dates for many of his paintings are very vague, but I’ve done my best to order them appropriately.
